What scale actually fits?
The first question every architect asks, answered before you have to ring anyone. Enter the building, pick a scale, and see the model size, whether it prints in one piece, the print time and the price.

PLA at standard finish, printed as a 2 mm shell rather than solid, which is how architectural models are actually made. Sanding, priming and paint-ready showpiece finish cost more; so does bonding a sectioned model, which we quote on the job because it depends on how the split falls. Send the file for a firm figure.
When printing is not the right answer
For a plain rectilinear block with flat faces, a laser-cut acrylic or MDF model from a traditional model shop is usually cheaper and faster than printing one. We would rather say so. Printing earns its price on contoured terrain, curved or perforated facades, fine repeated detail, and deadlines that need a model in 24 hours.
How we work with architectsWhat the numbers assume
Models are shells, not solids. A printed architectural model is a 2 mm skin with nothing inside it, which is how the trade has always made them. Pricing a solid block of that size would give a figure four times too high. If your model has interior floors, partitions or a cutaway, tell us, because that is genuinely more material.
Sectioning is designed, not improvised. Anything over 300 mm splits. We put the seam on a floor line or a facade joint where it disappears, add registration features so the parts self-align, and show you where it falls before anything prints. Bonding and seam finishing are quoted on the job because they depend entirely on how the split lands.
Finish is the other lever. At draft the layer lines are obvious. At fine (0.12 mm) they are subtle. At showpiece the model is sanded to 400 grit and primed, which removes them and gives you a paint-ready surface. Budget the finish by whether the model is a working study or the thing a client holds. Your Revit or SketchUp export will need work. Architectural models are almost never watertight. Walls have no thickness, surfaces are not solids, normals are inverted. We check every file and either tell you what needs fixing or fix it as part of the job. It is the single most common reason an architectural print gets delayed, and the reason to send the file early.
Selling flats rather than designing them?
A model in a sales office is a marketing spend, not a design cost, and it usually wants more than one copy: one per site office, one for the launch, one for the investor meeting. Repeat copies of the same model come off the same locked file and take the published volume discount. Tell us how many and we will price the set rather than the piece.
